Ask Yourself
What will be new or different at school for my child this year? What will be the same? What are some things that may cause stress during the day?
Try This This Week
Think about the answers to these questions and make a list of things to expect during the school day. This may include things like:
Who will take them to school - Where they will enter the building - Who their teacher will be - Where the rest rooms are located - Where they will eat lunch - When they will have recess - How they will get home
To really help your child prepare, visit the school when it is quiet there. Open Houses and Meet and Greets are also important but being in the building when it is less busy can be a great way for your child to walk around and become familiar with everything before the first day of school.
