How much do you really know about the place we call home? Strong Island: The Land That We Love and Live On! is a fun and fascinating journey through the history, people, places, and personality of Long Island.

Discover how Long Island was formed, explore important moments in its history, and uncover surprising fun facts about our hometown communities. We’ll visit famous parks, beaches, landmarks, towns, and attractions, while also learning about the actors, musicians, athletes, and other notable personalities who got their start right here on Long Island.

From the Gold Coast and Jones Beach to Montauk, Fire Island, local music, foods, traditions, and hidden treasures, there is always something new to discover. Classes will feature photos, videos, trivia, storytelling, and lively group discussions where participants can share their own Long Island memories and favorite places.

Whether you have lived here your entire life or simply want to learn more about this unique place, come discover why there really is no place quite like Long Island!

Affinity Class Instructor

Sarah Slotnick is a social studies teacher at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She brings her passion for history, improv, and art into the learning space to create engaging, age-appropriate experiences that build confidence, communication, and independence. Sarah believes in fostering a supportive environment where every individual is respected, empowered, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, reading, listening to podcasts, and of course, hanging out at the beach.
